The Creation
This furniture collection is manufactured in a workshop near Valencia, Spain. Each piece in the collection involves the work of 7 people.
The rattan pieces, such as the Riviera headboard, stand out for their beauty and almost sculptural shapes, made completely by hand in a very precise manner.
In order to make it fit the curves imposed by the molds, the rattan is put in a kiln, a device that allows the wood to be heated while keeping a certain level of humidity. As it cools, it will keep its shape and become almost indeformable. In order to apply the paint and for it to adhere to the surface of the rattan, the canes are first debarked. The appearance of the rattan without the skin, "raw", looks like beech wood.
The Material
Rattan is a wild plant belonging to the palm family that grows as a solid vine in Southeast Asia. The vines are composed of several intertwined fibers, which gives them a formidable strength.
The rattan canes arrive at the workshop with the skin and are used in their natural state. If they are to be repainted, the canes are debarked beforehand.
